General Ledger Accounting Assistant Location Gresham, OR (Northwest area) : JobID: 2316 Position Type: Classified (Business Services)/Accounting Assistant-DO Date Posted: 11/9/2025 Location: District Office Application Deadline: In-District Bargaining Unit Members November 16, 2025. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Accounting, the GL Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing support to general ledger accounting functions. The GL Accounting Assistant position requires excellent communication, financial and time-management skills, and is designed as part of the District's “Grow Your Own” initiatives to foster development of future accounting leadership. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification
  • License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Prior job related experience in accounting, financial or statistical records maintenance.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Skills to use computers, including Google shared documents and Excel as well as accounting software.
  • Maintaining physical records and applying basic accounting practices.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Knowledge of governmental accounting and/or financial reporting, and/or GAAP, or interest in professional development to further career opportunities in governmental accounting
  • The ability to work collaboratively with project teams, handle multiple tasks, and seek support for decisions in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to respond effectively to multiple conflicting priorities, continuously prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and situations as they arise
  • Ability to work independently
  • Understanding of the role of a public school district in serving the community and being accountable for public resources
  • Strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • The ability to inform and train personnel regarding various procedures and program requirements for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines
  • Active maintenance and research of various fiscal information and guidance, files and records (e.g. accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, grant reporting, bank reconciliations, purchase cards, contracts, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit documentation for compliance
  • The ability to research discrepancies in financial information and/or documentation (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and maintaining internal controls
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
