Job Title: EL (English Learner) Paraprofessional.

Job Type: Full-time, 11-month work agreement.

Reports to: Principal.

Staff to manage: None.

Department: Instructional.

Location : On campus (Not eligible for remote work).

  • AA or able to complete a Paraprofessional Assessment successfully.
  • Valid State of Arizona “IVP” Fingerprint Clearance Card (or acquired prior to employment).

General Description:

The EL Paraprofessional supports the academic achievement and language development of students identified as English Learners. This team member collaborates with teachers, EL coordinators, and administrators to provide targeted instructional support and help ensure equitable access to the general education curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with individual or small groups of EL students to support English language development (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Support EL students in general education classrooms by clarifying instruction, vocabulary, and directions.
  • Assist with implementing accommodations and language supports for ELs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and EL program staff to reinforce key concepts and strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation, distribution, and collection of instructional materials tailored to English learners.
  • Support the administration and collection of data for EL program assessments (e.g., AZELLA).
  • Encourage and facilitate the use of academic language in both social and academic settings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student-related matters.
  • Support EL students during non-instructional periods as needed (e.g., lunch, assemblies, field trips).
  • Participate in professional learning sessions related to EL instruction.

Physical Demands:

  • Hear and speak to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone.

  • See to read, prepare documents and reports, and to observe students.
  • Able to return to a task after interruption.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Stamina to work a full day and then supervise evening events or attend meetings.
  • Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects.
